  1. “… whitethroats and hermit thrushes …”

    My two favorite songbirds (assuming he means white throated sparrows). These two singers especially grab me by the ribs when I hear them after dusk, sometimes after full darkness. On a windless evening in the damp air of the woods, their songs hang in the trees, bounce around among the branches a little, and roll through you before you realize you heard them.
