  1. Before the rise of Western-style colonialism, many if not most indigenous cultures recognized and respected places where humans were not meant to go. Places reserved for the spirit of the wild, sacred spaces where humans were allowed to quietly visit for the purpose of seeking connection and vision.
    The unchecked consumption of natural resources is now clearly showing in the degradation of the global environment, the wild places and their inhabitants pressed at the edges.
