It has been a long winter in the Northwoods this year. The temperatures have been cool for the duration of the spring and the lakes are locked in with ice. Some reports suggest lakes in northern Minnesota have 50″ of ice on them still. Yesterday in Minnesota we were pounded with another blizzard dropping 8-10 inches in some places. While I thoroughly enjoy winter and the cold, I am ready for spring and for summer, for the warmth of the sun and quiet lapping of the water, for the soft song of the white-throated sparrow and the eerie cry of the loons.
